NCOC Proud Sponsor of Autism Speaks (http://www.autismspeaks.org/walk_events/sacramento_walk_2008.php)

The NCOC staff felt compelled to “give back” to the people of the community that has accepted us with open arms. As a result, the NCOC Care Committee was born. The NCOC Care Committee is comprised of staff volunteers striving to inspire other employees and their families to volunteer in the local community. We started this effort in full force the month of September 2008. Our first mission was to rally the staff troops to support one of their fellow employees. On September 28, 2008 the NCOC staff marched along with approximately 4,000 other people in the “Walk Now for Autism”. It was the first autism walk for the Sacramento Valley and it was major success. As it turned out the NCOC employees raised money, raised awareness and raised spirits. The NCOC Care Committee in October 2008 was thrilled to stand with the millions of people across the United States in the fight against breast cancer. Throughout the month of October the Northern California Orthopedic Center family wore the “pink” ribbons to show our support to all who bravely fight on. During the Holiday Season, the NCOC Care Committee found it the perfect time to spread the “giving spirit”. The NCOC Care Committee took this to heart. We started in November 2008 by adopting a local family that was in dire need. Over the months of November and December the staff purchased gifts and Northern California Orthopedic Center donated $250.00 for a Holiday meal to be delivered to the family the week of Christmas. It was the gift of giving to others that turned out to be the gift that the NCOC employees needed. Also, in December 2008 the NCOC Care Committee organized a “Christmas Caroling” group of staff and their families to sing at the Manzanita Eskaton facility. At first the group was nervous on how they would be received by the residents. We sang, we danced, we handed out warm socks and the residents loved it! In fact, they loved it so much that when it was time for us to leave the tears began to flow. We have been asked back and fully intended to spend more time at Manzanita Eskaton in 2009. As for January 2009, the NCOC Care Committee is collecting new and used books to donate to The Children’s Receiving Home. The home is building a library for the children and NCOC is proud to be a part of this effort. We will be donating the collected books the second week of the month. In the coming year, the staff and volunteers of Northern California Orthopedic Center plan to continue passing out blessing to the local community that makes NCOC feel so blessed. |
